In this paper, we study whether the voter’ perception in the cross-cutting exposure environment has an effect on candidate support change using data from the 18th korean presidential election. In terms of political persuasion, we focus on whether the voter with partisan attitude is persuaded when he/she has experienced crosscutting exposure in his/her discussion network. Specifically, we analyze that the effect of cross-cutting exposure on the voter embedded in his/her social network is differentiated by his/her favorite candidate. Our findings suggest that the essential role is not simply the difference between the voter’s political view and his/her discussion partner’s, but the social context embedded in his/her partisan predisposition when deciding whether the voter in the cross-cutting exposure environment is affected by his/her discussion partner. |
